I first met Roy (90) and Joy (84) at a Jaguar Club dinner – we instantly hit it off which was probably due to them being comical, full of life and thoroughly great fun to be around :-).

18 months ago I sold Roy a low mileage S-Type to match Joys. Last week they called in for a catch up as I’ve missed the last few Club meetings. After an hour or so of chatting, (which reveals Roy’s a professional drummer) they then browse my current stock and Joy falls in love with a Racing Green 36,000 mile S-Type Sovereign. A deal was struck, but they insisted that part of the deal was that they buy me lunch one afternoon. As I’m a keen amateur drummer they also promised that after dinner we go back to theirs so I could see Roy play. Roy’s been a drummer since the age of 14 and was until recently playing with the Huntingdonshire Concert Band, and he’s even played at the Royal Albert Hall. After a lovely meal overlooking Ely Marina we head back to their beautiful home for coffee. After coffee and more interesting stories of their colourful life, Joy prompts Roy to pick up his sticks. He played us several complex Military riffs and some songs from well known musical’s – while Joy dances around the room. He was absolutely brilliant and I was blown away by his effortless technique – so wonderful to hear and If I played for 100 years I couldn’t make it look that easy.

Thanks to Roy & Joy for dinner and a super afternoon 🙂
